1. reduction emissions
Reducing emissions in shipping, including noise and CO2 emissions, is of great importance for the environment and climate. It is therefore important to take measures to reduce these emissions in shipping in order to counteract climate change and protect the ecosystem.
In this field of action, KölnTourist has already been using GTL (gas-to-liquids) as a fuel for a few years, lower-consumption engines and the simultaneous throttling of the drives. This significantly reduces fuel consumption and wear, which in turn increases the service life of the engines.
We are also doing a lot in the area of noise emissions. For example, we have installed state-of-the-art silencers in all ships.
2. water protection
The element of water is closer to shipping than any other. And so it is our endeavor to handle this resource, which is particularly important for us, with care.
The exclusive use of high-quality paints with a particularly long shelf life, state-of-the-art wastewater tanks or dry urinals in the toilets are just a few examples of our measures to protect the water in the Rhine.
3. sustainable catering
A sustainable catering offer relies on regional and seasonal ingredients. This can minimize the ecological footprint accordingly and support the economy in the region at the same time.
KölnTourist sources a steadily growing proportion of the ingredients for its gastronomic offerings from producers in the region. We also source our range of beverages from local producers.
In addition, we serve portions based on need to avoid unnecessary food waste.
4. sustainability in office and administration
The measures taken by KölnTourist in the office and administration field of action focus on employees. Fair wages and salaries well above the minimum wage, practicing cosmopolitanism, promoting home office and further training are just a few examples of measures to promote social sustainability.
In the area of administration and management, KölnTourist is increasingly relying on digitalization. The reduction of paper consumption (e-file) or digital ticketing are apt examples here.
5. climate neutral transportation
We are already doing a lot to further improve sustainability in all dimensions at KölnTourist. However, as a family business and medium-sized company, we cannot take all the steps at once, so in addition to the numerous ongoing and planned sustainability measures, we also compensate for our entire annual CO2 footprint by supporting two selected and certified climate projects.
With Hydroelectric-Power we are supporting a water project in the state of Uttaranchal in India and we support the generation of clean wind energy near the town of De Aar in South Africa. For you as a passenger, this means that your travel with KölnTourist is climate-neutral.
