Sustainability measures

Our measures in the field of nautics

  • We drive with throttled engines, which saves fuel, reduces wear and tear and prevents cavitation damage. We have also stretched our timetable. This means we can drive more slowly and consume less fuel.
  • We are gradually modernizing the heating systems on our ships. This allows us to use the engine heat to heat the salons
  • In our ships we have more fuel-efficient engines which also reduce emissions.
  • We have changed our fuel from marine diesel to Gas To Liquid which also results in significantly lower pollutant emissions.
  • During the idle times we always switch off the propulsion engines. This also applies to the generators.
  • During the mooring times we use on board exclusively green electricity from Sauber Energie (Sauber Strom Natur & Wald) and thus support the protection of local mixed forests
  • To reduce noise emissions, we have installed on all ships modern silencers installed on all ships.
  • For our ships we use exclusively high quality oils and paints. Because we have to paint less frequently, this also reduces paint consumption.

Our measures in the area of gastronomy

  • We avoid food waste through appropriate stocking and portions according to need
  • For food and beverages, we source exclusively regional products as far as possible.
  • We are successively expanding our range, increasingly with vegetarian and vegan foods.
  • In cooperation with our caterer, we specifically focus on a sustainable product range.

Our measures in the area of cash registers and office

  • We have digitized our ticket sales with Travelmanager, thus using less paper, requiring less equipment and reducing unnecessary postal routes.
  • With our regular service in the direction of Rodenkirchen, we support local public transport as an additional means of transport.
  • Despite large physical distances within the company, we rely on online meetings to save travel, emissions and time.
  • Where possible, we encourage home office work.

Our measures for employees

  • In principle, we conclude permanent contracts with our permanent contracts to guarantee a regular income and long-term planning.
  • As a matter of principle, we pay above the statutory minimum wage and thus avoid employees having to rely on state support in an emergency.
  • With us there is always the possibility of training or further education, both for new and already hired employees.
  • Our employees receive job tickets for the use of public transport.
  • We offer our employees additional benefits such as their own company pension.
  • To increase employee retention, we create additional full-time positions whenever possible instead of relying solely on temporary employees.
  • We are committed to full gender equality: men and women generally receive the same pay and enjoy the same educational opportunities.
  • Our team is enriched by employees of various nationalities from all over the world.
